More info about this coffee:
This 88 scoring coffee is from the Koerintji Barokah Bersama Cooperative farm which has 320 members and sits on the fertile slopes of Mount Kerinci, a volcano on Sumatra. Thanks to the rich volcanic soil, the area produces some of the most vibrant and delicious coffee. Founded in 2017, the cooperative is managed by Triyono, who leads the team in growing, processing, and roasting their own coffees. The co-op has a roasting facility, a cupping lab, and a dry mill, allowing them to manage every step of production.
Sumatra’s farms are small, usually between 0.5 to 2.5 hectares, and many farmers intercrop with vegetables and fruits, which help sustain their families. Coffee is their main cash crop, though they often work as hired labour on nearby tea plantations once the coffee harvest is done.
The cooperative handpicks its coffee cherries, which are processed at one of the nine UPH stations overseen by Triyono. The coop follows Sumatra’s unique Wet Hulled method, but has expanded into Honey processing. Cherries are pulped without water and dried in raised beds, protected from the elements. The drying process takes about 20 days, and the coffee is then milled and hand-sorted.
The coop supports its members with technical assistance, seedlings for shade trees, and shares profits as quality premiums or reinvests in infrastructure to improve quality further. This dedication to quality is reflected in every cup.
This is our first Indonesian coffee and we hope you find it as delicious as we do!
